Timeline

The Minnesota School Board Directors of Color and Indigenous Fellowship (MNSBDOCI) has consistently delivered high-quality content in programming for school board directors each year. An important tenet of the effort is that all MSBA members, regardless of ethnic background are invited to participate in each professional development or enrichment event offered. Meetings generally were planned to occur simultaneous to the annual meetings offered by MSBA. Programs of the past include:

  • 2016: Group meeting with Winona State Educator Alexander Hines
  • 2016: Group meeting with West Metro Education Program (WMEP) Executive Director Dr. Kimberly Matier
  • 2017: The Minnesota African Heritage School Board Group meets with National School Board President Miranda Beard
  • 2017: Merged meetings with the African Heritage, Asian Groups and Indigenous Directors
  • 2017: Abdi Sabrie and Helen Bassett interviewed on MPR Radio to discuss the lack of diversity on Minnesota school boards
  • 2018: Annual Program Legislative Forum: The Importance of Diversity
  • 2018: Published First School Board Members of Color Directory Annual
  • 2019: Program: Bolstering Good Governance Program
  • 2020: Annual Program: Panel Presentation Trauma Informed School Safety
